How to Choose Field Hockey Goalie Equipment

A field hockey goalkeeper can face shots faster than 60 mph, so goalie gear must protect without slowing you down. Here's how to choose it:

Decide between a set and separate pieces. New and junior keepers save money with a complete goalie set (for example the TK 4 Entry Goalkeeping Set). Experienced keepers usually buy each piece separately for the best fit and rebound control.
Start with the head. A goalie helmet with a fixed cage, plus a throat guard, is essential. It should not move when you shake your head.
Choose foam density. High-density foam kickers and leg guards rebound the ball further and last longer. Softer foam suits younger keepers and slower shots.
Fit kickers to your shoes. Kickers strap over your turf shoes, so size them to your shoe size.
Protect the core. Body armour (chest, shoulders and arms), padded shorts or a girdle, and a pelvic protector are required for full-kit keepers.
Add the right stick. Purpose-built goalie sticks have reinforced faces for saves and clearances.
