A 38 inch stick is uncommon and usually only made to order. Tall players more often choose a 37.5" or 38.5" stock size.
As a rule of thumb, a 38" stick suits very tall players: players who are 6'0" and over (183 cm+) tall. Height matters more than age, so measure before you buy. Adults choose between neighbouring sizes based on playing style: shorter for close control and dribbling, longer for reach, tackling and hitting.

A 38 inch stick usually fits players 6'0" and over (183 cm+). The top of the stick should reach the hip bone when it stands upright beside you.
Most players using a 38" stick are adults, but height matters more than age. Measure from the ground to the hip bone and choose the closest length.
38 inches is about 96.5 cm. The FIH maximum stick length is 105 cm (41.3"), so a 38" stick is legal in every competition.
Use the same length, but buy a dedicated indoor stick. Indoor sticks are lighter and thinner, and outdoor sticks are usually too stiff for indoor rules.
Choose the shorter size for close control, dribbling and 3D skills, and the longer size for reach in tackles, hitting and drag flicks. If you are between sizes and unsure, most coaches recommend the shorter one.
