Who should use a 37.5 inch field hockey stick?

The 37.5 inch stick is the main "long" adult size. Defenders and tall midfielders like it for reach in tackles and for longer hits and drag flicks.

As a rule of thumb, a 37.5" stick suits tall adults and players who want extra reach: players who are 5'9"–6'1" (175–185 cm) tall. Height matters more than age, so measure before you buy. Adults choose between neighbouring sizes based on playing style: shorter for close control and dribbling, longer for reach, tackling and hitting.

How to check 37.5" is the right length

1. Stand straight in your playing shoes and hold the stick upright beside you, toe on the ground.
2. The top of a 37.5" (95.3 cm) stick should reach your hip bone. If it reaches your belly button, it is too long; if it stops at the top of your thigh, it is too short.
3. Get into a ready position with knees bent. You should be able to keep the head flat on the ground without bending your back too far.
