Field Hockey Goggles vs Masks Chart 2026

Goggles and corner masks do different jobs. This chart shows when each is used and what to look for.

Gear	When worn	Who wears it	What to check
Protective goggles	Whole game and practice	US high-school and many youth players	ASTM F2713 label for NFHS play
Penalty corner face mask	Only while defending a penalty corner	Defenders running out at corners	Close fit, contrasting colour
Goalie helmet	Whole game	Goalkeepers only	Fixed cage, worn with a throat guard

NFHS (US high school) field hockey requires eyewear that meets ASTM F2713. College and international play do not require goggles, but players may choose to wear them.
